This course continues to develop practical reading, writing, and language skills essential for everyday life. Building on the foundations of [Functional Literacy 1](https://www.isd411.org/2026-2027/course-catalog/course-description/~board/2026-27-hs/post/en140-functional-literacy-1) and [2](https://www.isd411.org/2026-2027/course-catalog/course-description/~board/2026-27-hs/post/en240-functional-literacy-2), students focus on refining their communication abilities for personal, academic, and workplace settings. Instruction is individualized to meet each student's needs and promote greater independence.
Prerequisites: Individualized Education Program (IEP) required; Case Manager recommendation; Resource students are assigned to classes on the basis of their own choices and with recommendations of resource teachers and parents. The IEP sets forth a plan of goals and objectives, which specifies accommodations and services necessary to meet the students’ needs.
