of this course is to provide, through the study of sociology, an opportunity to acquire an understanding of group interaction and its impact on individuals in order that they may have a greater awareness of the beliefs, values, and behavior patterns of others. In an increasingly interdependent world, students need to recognize how group behavior affects both the individual and society. The content should include, but not be limited to the following: understanding human behavior; the characteristics of social groups; cultural diversity; cultural conformity and adaptation; social structure, social institutions, agents of socialization, the role of adolescents and adults in our society; norms and values as they relate to effective group functions; understanding social problems; deviance and social control; and social stratification.
