Golden Gate High School – BAND 1 \* As Marching Band is a component of the band program, participation in Marching Band is a requirement to be in a high school band program.

Students may be required to attend/ participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend and assess learning in the classroom, which leads to a grade. This year-long, entry-level class, designed for students having little or no previous band experience with woodwind, brass, and/or percussion instruments, promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music through performance of high-quality, beginning wind and percussion literature from different times and places. Rehearsals focus on the development of critical listening/aural skills; rudimentary instrumental technique and skills, music literacy, and ensemble skills; and aesthetic musical awareness culminating in periodic public performances (some after school hours) which lead to a grade. This course may also require students to obtain a musical instrument (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) from the school or an outside source.
