Gateway Education Center – Speech and Language Therapy

A school-based related service for Exceptional Children designed to help students develop functional communication systems to engage in the educational environment. Focuses on helping students advocate for needs, express preferences, and engage in social interactions using various communication methods. Utilizes research-based strategies focusing on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including both unaided strategies (gestures, sign language, vocalizations) and aided strategies (objects, photos, picture symbols, voice output buttons, and high-tech dynamic display devices). Uses an integrated model where goals are incorporated into classroom routines and natural environments.
Prerequisites: Completion of referral and evaluation process; deemed necessary by a Speech Therapist and IEP Team
Grades: All grade levels (Elementary, Middle, High School)
