A related service for exceptional children designed to help students benefit from special education in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment. Focuses on functional mobility, independence, engagement, and social interactions by integrating goals into classroom routines. Differs from medical models by focusing on participation in the school setting rather than short-term medical impairments. Provides goal-directed interventions and supplemental aids integrated into classroom routines to help children learn and practice necessary functional skills. Activities include assessments, interventions, strategies, and consultations; development of plans for supplemental aid and services; controlling postural deviations and positioning; assisting with equipment and assistive technology; and education for school staff and families.

Prerequisites: Referral and consent for evaluation; need determined by a physical therapist and IEP team
