Debate is a course designed to promote research, analysis, and public speaking skills in an educational environment of competition. Students learn and practice foundational public speaking skills as they progressively advance through various speeches and forms of debate including: extemporaneous speeches, Lincoln-Douglas Debates, Public Forum Debates, and One-on-One Debates. Focused critical thinking skills for this course include: principles of organization, deductive reasoning, fallacies of reasoning, identifying confirmation bias, and anticipating opposition.
