Credits: 1FW-6FW \*\*\*Students must provide their own transportation for field experiences Students will acquire additional knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of health care settings.  Students will complete either an internship or gain employment using their CNA certification. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES CAREER PATHWAY Emergency Medical Services prepares students for a state certification which may lead to a career in Emergency Medical Services. This program includes 7168, 5274, and 7165 with the option of the EMT Capstone. Examples of those careers include Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. This course is designed for persons desiring to perform emergency medical care. Theories, techniques, and operational aspects of pre-hospital emergency care, within the scope and responsibility of the basic emergency medical technician, are covered in this course. Students will learn to recognize the seriousness of the patient’s condition, use the appropriate emergency care techniques and equipment to stabilize the patient, and safely transport them to the hospital. The handling of victims of hazardous materials accidents is also addressed in this course. Opportunities for laboratory practice and clinical observation in a hospital emergency room and ambulance are also included to provide occasions for students to further develop clinical skills and appropriate ethical behavior. Students will need to provide their own transportation to the required clincial observations and/or ambulance ride alongs. \*\*Students have the opportunity to earn dual credit through Ivy Tech Community College if they meet the Ivy Tech requirements.\*\*
