Open To: 11, 12 Credit: 2 semester course, one credit earned per semester, Full Weight The IB Dance Standard level course takes a holistic approach to dance, focusing on improving understanding of a variety of dance styles, traditions, and cultures—past, present, and future. Learning focuses on understanding dance as a set of practices with their own histories and theories, and on understanding that these practices integrate physical, intellectual, and emotional knowledge. Performance, creative, and analytical skills are all part of the course as students explore the possibilities of bodily movement. The curriculum offers a liberal arts approach to dance, facilitating the development of students who may become choreographers, performers, dance scholars, or those who seek broader life enrichment through dance. IB Dance students will create a portfolio of their work and submit three assessments to the IB for evaluation, rather than taking an exam. Curriculum, instruction, and portfolio pieces within this course are designed to prepare students for the International Baccalaureate’s assessment of their work. # CHOIR DIVISION: Participation in the Choir Division of the Performing Arts Department is open to all students. Anyone who enjoys singing will be placed in a choral organization; however, students must audition for the directors to be placed in the most appropriate organization that meets their musical needs and abilities. Auditions for choral organizations are held in the spring each year for placement in the following year’s groups. Due to limited registrations, students who audition late cannot be promised placement in advanced groups. Exceptions will be made only at the discretion of the directors. Activity Fees: Each member of the Choir Division will be assessed a fee of $25.00 per school year. (Additional $10.00 for students enrolled in Musical Arts). This service fee covers the costs of music folders, music rental, and replacement, among other expenses, and will be collected during the first week of school. Please note: In addition to the activity fee, parents should also be aware of the financial responsibilities associated with the choir, which include costume and shoe expenses, as well as uniform rental and cleaning, and other incidental costs. Costume and shoe fees will be announced before auditions each year.
