Greetings, exchanging personal background information, telling about your family, and describing your typical school days are the topics covered in the first semester. In the second semester, we will explore sports, activities, describe physical and personal qualities of people, give directions, and tell about jobs, food, and animals. Some of the typical classroom activities include building vocabulary, learning basic grammar through translation, and maintaining conversations in ASL with partners. Signing skills are assessed in both receptive and expressive manners. We have discussions and journal entries covering a variety of topics in Deaf Culture. Attending and/or participating in a Deaf Culture Event per grading period is required.
