Fairmont Heights High – Masonry 1

This course covers the historic and current methods and procedures used in the masonry trade. Safety practices and requirements are emphasized including personal protective equipment, handling hazardous materials, and work safety. Students learn about the various tools and equipment used in the production of mortar, cutting of masonry units, placing of masonry units, and use mathematics to figure distances areas and volumes for masonry construction work. In addition, the class covers chemical and physical properties of cement sand and various types of admixtures, as well as techniques for laying brick and block.
