Personal Finance is an algebra-based CTE course designed to build upon prior math knowledge and apply algebra concepts to real-world financial situations. The course covers investing, banking, credit, income taxes, insurance, automobile ownership, renting an apartment, employment, retirement and household budgeting. Students will learn step-by-step strategies to understand financial concepts like the time value of money, evaluating the best banks and credit cards, making financial decisions, calculating loan payments and interest, investing in the stock market, and building a business plan by understanding costs, profits, and break-even points.
Prerequisites: Designed for students who have completed Algebra and Geometry. Note: This course meets the graduation requirement for a math class after completing Algebra 1 and Geometry.
