In this course students explore spatialrelationships through the use of non objective,abstract, or representational forms, products,or structures. Instruction may include, but isnot limited to, content in green or industrialdesign, sculpture, ceramics, or building arts.Processes and techniques for substitutioninclude wheel-thrown clay, glaze formulationand application, or extruded, cast, draped,molded, laminated, or soft forms. Media mayinclude, but are not limited to, clay, wood,metal, plaster, paper maché, and plastic withconsideration of the workability, durability, cost,and toxicity of the media used. 3-D artistsexperiment with and manipulatespace-producing devices, includingoverlapping, transparency, interpenetration,vertical and horizontal axis, inclined planes,disproportionate scale, fractional or abstractedrepresentation, and spatial properties of thestructural art elements. Craftsmanship andquality are reflected in the surface andstructural qualities of the completed art forms.Students in the 3-D art studio focus on use ofsafety procedures for process, media, andtechniques. Student artists use an art criticismprocess to evaluate, explain, and measureartistic growth in personal or group works.
