East High – Beginning ESL

This course is designed for students at the beginner proficiency level who have virtually no functional ability in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English. In this course EL students will develop the necessary listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for communication, word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of print, as aligned to grade level standard, in order to be successful in the mainstream classroom. These are initial literacy skills.
Prerequisites: WIDA proficiency level of 1.0-1.9 \*Course code dependent on grade level
