African American Studies is a class for any high school student interested in the experiences, culture, and contributions of African Americans over time. This course will explore and analyze the cultural heritage of African Americans, contributions of African Americans to America and the world, concepts of assimilation and a historical perspective to analyze contemporary issues in American politics, art, music, literature, and economics. Students will engage in a variety of activities, interviews, text interactions, film, and research based projects to illuminate the theory and practice of African American Studies. 63
