This course is designed to introduce students to theater and the dramatic arts. This will be accomplished by surveying the theater from a variety of perspectives including (but not limited to), the academic, the historical, the artistic, and the practical. A person versed in the arts and the forms and functions of artistic expression is better equipped to understand the complexities of a rapidly changing global community, and is more sensitive to his or her place within it. The overall goal of this course then, is to provide each student a thorough understanding of, and genuine appreciation for, both the art form that is theater and art in the general sense.
