Dougherty Valley High – Introduction to Ethnic Studies

Introduction to Ethnic Studies is designed to help students develop an intersectional and global understanding of the impact of race and racism, ethnicity, and culture in the shaping of individuals and communities in the United States. Students will be exposed to a multitude of histories, perspectives, and cultures with the goal of students being able to build critical analytical and intercultural communication skills; develop an understanding of geohistorical and cultural knowledge and contributions; foster humanism and collaboration across lines of difference; learn the value and strength in diversity; develop a rigorous historical understanding of the development of racial and ethnic identities in the United States; and engage in civic action, community services, or community education to bring positive change that helps build a future society free of racism and other forms of bigotry.
