This is the second course in a three-year sequence of Teaching Academy courses. In this course, students will continue the development of teaching practice and critical academic and communication skills. Students will be exposed to essential theories and philosophies which will facilitate the further development and understanding of learning modalities and pedagogy, including the history and philosophy of education, various educational systems around the world, lesson planning and assessments, and the issues particular to teaching in an urban setting. This course provides students the opportunity to develop skills to teach and guide others. Students will create and develop teaching objectives, design lesson plans, and experience teaching in a controlled environment. Students examine and practice teaching strategies, presentation and questioning skills, classroom management, and evaluation techniques. This course will also highlight Illinois regulations and licensing requirements in the field of education. A work-based learning component is integrated into the course to provide an opportunity for students to apply the skills and knowledge of the education profession learned in class.
