Curie Metropolitan High School – Advanced Child Care and Development I

This course consists of on-site laboratory education accompanied by observation techniques. The course is divided into two major areas: the theory class and the practicum in which students work with community pre-school children in the school-based lab. The theory component focuses on the development of children in all areas-physical, cognitive, social, and emotional from conception to age six. Emphasis is placed on the effect the child's environment has on development health, safety, food, and clothing. Students learn to understand children behavior, cope with and solve common problems, and utilize alternatives to problem solving. Information related to child care careers is incorporated throughout the course.
