Principles of Engineering is a broad-based survey course designed to help students understand the field of engineering and engineering technology and its career possibilities. Students will develop engineering problem-solving skills that are involved in post-secondary education programs and engineering careers. They will explore various engineering systems and manufacturing processes. They will also learn how engineers address concerns about the social and political consequences of technological change. The main purpose of this course is to experience, through theory and hands-on problem-solving activities, what engineering is all about and to answer the question, “Is a career in engineering or engineering technology for me?” Course Length: 1 yearGrade: 11-12Credit per Semester: 1Prerequisite: Prin of Engin 1, 2, or Physics, or DronesCredit type: PWR/Comp or ElectiveGPA scale- 4.5College/Workforce: UCCS This course is a project-based curriculum similar to all Project Lead the Way courses. Students in this course will employ engineering and scientific concepts to the solution of aerospace problems. The entire curriculum sequence will include experiences from the diverse fields of Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, and related areas of study. Lessons will engage students in engineering design problems that can be accomplished at a high school setting related to aerospace information systems, stars sailing or astronautics rocketry, propulsion, the physics of space science, space life sciences (Bio-Space) that includes looking at habitat and crew systems with life support, the biology of space science, principles of aeronautics, structures and materials, and systems engineering.
