An introduction to psychology including research methodology, biological bases of behavior, human development, sensation, perception, intelligence, cognition, language, states of consciousness, learning, memory, motivation, emotion, personality, abnormal behavior and stress and health. Goals of the Course include: an appreciation for the breadth of topics, subfields, and occupations in the field, an overview of major findings and perspectives about many topics in the field. Students will understand psychology’s relevance as a science, including how psychologists use the scientific method to approach problems in the world around them. Acquire basic tools for becoming critical consumers of research and claims about behavior as presented in the media and other real-world sources. Students will an appreciation for the multiple determinants of behavior and for the influence of social and cultural contexts. There are weekly quizzes for this course that may be in or out of class. You will be expected to complete work on own time for this course in addition to class work. Homework: Expect an average of $^ { 5 + }$ hour of work for the class during the week. During this course, students will explore the history of this nation from the time of Reconstruction. Students will learn how to think like historians and sociologists by exploring the historical, geographic, economic, and civic trends that have occurred in our nation. They will analyze how events and people brought about the changes that led the United States to become the world power that it is today. A successful performance on this examination normally leads to advanced placement in college courses and/or college credit up to 3 credit hours per semester. Homework: Expect an average of one hour of homework per night.
