Develop knowledge and understanding of the emerging 4th Sector of the Economy: Business exists to deliver value to our society. We are seeing the emergence of a new sector - for-profit business strategies with purpose-based thinking. Learn how to apply this model in our community and in your future. In this course, students will explore concepts such as business ownership, social impact, ethics, capitalism, free enterprise evolution, and the history of non-profits. Learn how to create a sustainable business while doing good for communities. Skills and Topics that will be covered include: effective nonprofit leadership, successful nonprofit organizations and board governance, marketing and public relations, development planning and donor engagement, financial management, organizational effectiveness, essentials of talent management, current legal and ethical considerations in nonprofit management, and leadership lessons. Students may also earn 1-2 vocational credits per semester for Work Study Service Learning through service hours. Sign up for Service Learning Advisory Council twice.
