Quantitative Reasoning is a one-year course focused on the study of numeracy, ratio and proportional reasoning, modeling, probabilistic reasoning, and statistics. Students will build knowledge with basic mathematical/analytical concepts and operations. The class will focus heavily on problem-solving with real-life applications. It is designed to provide students with a coherent, practical, and logical experience in which they can utilize their ability to analyze problem situations. This higher-level math course aligns with college-level quantitative reasoning courses. It is recommended for students who are not planning to pursue a degree in a STEM or medical-related field or do not anticipate needing Calculus or advanced mathematics in their future studies. Juniors should not take this course if they plan to take a math class in their senior year. There are no math courses offered after the Quantitative Reasoning course. A scientific calculator will be required for this course; students should refer to their teacher’s supply list for further guidance. Some calculators may not be allowed on assessments due to advanced functionality. FINITE MATH, Non ACP (2530) Classification: Regular Pre-Requisite: Algebra II 1-2 Open to: 11, 12 (Students must have completed Algebra I 1-2, Geometry 1,2, and Algebra II 1-2) Credit: 1 RW \*This is a one-semester class taken with Probability and Statistics Finite Mathematics is a collection of mathematical topics, frequently used in business or public policy contexts. It is a course designed for students who will undertake higher-level mathematics in college that may not include calculus. Finite Math is made up of five strands: Sets, Matrices, Networks, Optimization, and Probability. A TI-30XIIS Scientific calculator is required for this course. A calculator other than the TI-30XIIS may not be allowed on some class activities and assessments.
