AP precalculus focuses heavily on reading, writing, and communicating in mathematics. Applications, explanations, and connections among and between topics are a core component of the AP course. AP Pre-Calculus is intended to prepare students for AP Calculus AB. The course will primarily cover all four units of the AP Precalculus Course Exam Description: Polynomial and Rational Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Trigonometric and Polar Functions, and Functions involving Parameters, Vectors, and Matrices. Students will work both algebraically and graphically, utilizing graphing technologies. Students completing this course will be eligible to take the AP Precalculus exam in May, part of which may be covered by the state when the student is currently enrolled in the course. Students who plan to take the AP exam may find it helpful to have a graphing calculator, such as the TI-84, TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus CE, NumWorks, TI-Nspire, or TI-Inspire. All students will have access to technology during class when appropriate. Students planning to continue to Calculus BC at Carmel High School will be required to have a TI-Nspire CAS.
