An advanced course for students who have demonstrated the interest and ability to study biological systems at greater depth. This course will emphasize the nature of laboratory investigation, and will introduce students to the foundations of living systems. The course covers the four “Big Ideas” as set forth by the College Board: evolution, the use of free energy in living systems, the importance of information storage and retrieval in living systems as an essential process of life, and the interactions between biological systems. The goal of the course is to allow students to develop an understanding of basic biological concepts, which will allow them to see that certain processes are inherent in all living systems, and apply their understanding of one system to novel scenarios. This course is especially recommended for those students who plan to study medicine or major in one of the biological sciences. Students are expected to take the AP Biology Exam.

Prerequisites: Chemistry H, CP Chemistry with an A.
