Catoctin High – Antebellum America, The Civil War and Reconstruction

This course offers students an opportunity to participate in an in- depth study of the Civil War and Reconstruction. While exploring the causes of this conflict, students examine social, political, and economic events that led to the increase of industrialization, the expansion of the Course Descriptions Social studies courses draw upon the wealth of information and insight to be found in anthropology, history, psychology, economics, geography, political science, and sociology. The curriculum encourages students to apply the lessons of the past to the problems of the present, and to utilize investigation and problem-solving techniques to become informed, empowered and participatory members of our democratic society and global community. To meet graduation requirements, all students must pass a course in United States history, American government and world history. Students must take the MCAP assessment in Government or the Advanced Placement United States Government and Politics assessment in order to meet the state’s government assessment requirement for graduation.
