Carver College and Career Academy – American Sign Language 1

This American Sign Language (ASL)1 introduces fundamental skills, including basic vocabulary, syntax, fingerspelling and grammatical non-manual signals. Students will focus on communicative competence. Students exit with a Novice-Mid proficiency for interpretive (receptive-fingerspelling), interpersonal and expressive presentational mode, at Novice-Low for glossing and Novice-High on the receptive interpretive, aligned with the Virginia Standards and the ACTFL proficiency scale.
