Canton High School – Public Speaking

Public speaking is a course designed for all students. The course will emphasize oral performance through a variety of speeches focusing upon writing, revising and editing. We incorporate the key processes of writing in developing oral communication. The student will gain valuable experience in learning to organize, prepare, deliver, listen to and evaluate speeches. They will learn the basic speech process which yields public speaking success. The student will also gain poise and confidence in the process of completing course assignments. College level development on researching, editing documents, and outlining valuable information from online resources are core skills refined within this course. Speech anxiety is common; this course will help students overcome fear by learning the preparation process in addition to multiple practice opportunities. Effective management of speech anxiety will be taught in the class. Note: A complimentary course for those with extreme speaking anxiety is Interpersonal Communication.
