Canton High School – International Foods & Nutrition

This class is designed to help develop skills in food preparation for personal or career development. All topics and labs will incorporate the foods of various countries. Cultures covered may include African, Russian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Italian, South American, Greek and Chinese cookery. Topics include safety and sanitation, kitchen math, basic cooking skills and worldwide food customs. Labs may include pretzels, hummus and pita chips, fried rice, quesadillas, vegetarian cooking and various baked products from around the world. Qualifies for Applied Art credit . See your counselor. If you are considering a future career in Human Services (such as teaching, social work, psychology or medical) this class will give you leadership preparation. You will learn about various types of physical or mental challenges and how to work with these populations. Hands-on time will be spent working with these peers in the context of a foods course.
