Child Development 1 focuses on the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth anddevelopment of children. Emphasis is placed on helping students acquire knowledge andskills essential to the care and guidance of children. Students learn to create environmentsthat promote optimal development. Factors influencing a child's development fromconception through childhood are explored. Opportunities for service and project-basedlearning are incorporated throughout the course. Integration of the Family and ConsumerSciences student organization, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America(FCCLA), greatly enhances this curriculum.
