Brooke Point High – AP Music Theory
Apr 2026 · 2nd Semester
AP Music Theory develops a student’s ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic elements of music literacy and composition. This is approached by addressing fundamental aural, analytical, and compositional skills using both listening and written exercises. Building on this foundation, the course progresses to include more creative tasks, such as the harmonization of a melody by selecting appropriate chords, composing a musical bass line to provide two-voice counterpoint, or the realization of figured-bass notation. Students will be prepared and are encouraged to take the AP exam for possible college credit. International Baccalaureate Courses for Visual and Performing Arts Students will be prepared and are encouraged to take the year-end IB examination for possible college credit. Schools offering these courses: BPHS (through 2026-2027) and MVHS.
