(Weighted 5.0) AP Music Theory courses are designed to be the equivalent of a first-year music theory college course as specified by the College Board. AP Music Theory develops students’ understanding of musical structure and compositional procedures. Usually intended for students who already possess performance-level skills, AP Music Theory courses extend and build upon students’ knowledge of intervals, scales, chords, metric/rhythmic patterns, and the ways they interact in a composition. Musical notation, analysis, composition, and aural skills are important components of the course. Counseling Notes: 3. An existing ability to read music is required 4. This course is offered by the University of Colorado at Denver through its CU Succeed Gold Program in cooperation with Northglenn High School.
