This is a weighted honors course offered to advanced art students in grades 11-12, who show an interest in being a peer mentor/tutor, and future art teacher or art major in college. Students will be eligible to take this class through an interview process. This course builds on foundational skills previously acquired, allowing further exploration of historical and cultural art trends, as well as skill development in drawing, painting, three-dimensional design, and visual communications. The art elements and principles of design are applied to compositions and processes involving a variety of media. Along with regular writing and reading assignments, in-class student and teacher evaluations, students will become leaders in daily classroom activities, planning with the teacher. Students will be required to actively participate in, and lead, out-of-school time including evenings and possible weekends for activities such as art shows and other professional art organization events. Students may take this course more than one time.
