The role of money in any social order of even the barest level ofcomplexity cannot be overstated. Nor can the number of mistaken,fallacious, or outright dangerously foolish ideas surrounding money, itsfunction, its origins, or its mechanics. The same is true of banking.By the end of this course, you will develop an understanding of bothmainstream and heterodox views on the nature and role of money andbanking in society. You will also know how to calculate presentdiscounted value and about monetary, commercial, and central bankingsystems, with particular emphasis on their relationship with Americangovernment programs, fiscal policies, and controls.
