Baltimore International Academy West – Independent Study: Film/Video

This course approaches the study of film and video through the lenses of history, critical analysis and practical fine arts production. Students will view and analyze significant films throughout history according to genre, i.e. horror, comedy, documentary, science fiction, etc. Important contributions from directors, actors, screenwriters and other media artists will be included in this historical approach to film study. Students will read, write and discuss film criticism based on the success and weakness of specific film elements, such as lighting, sound effects, set design, acting, etc. Students will then synthesize and apply their historical and critical understandings by producing their own videos in collaborative groups.
