CERTIFICATION: Patient Care Tech This course prepares students to become certified as Patient Care Technicians (PCTs). In this course, students will learn the necessary knowledge and skills to provide direct patient care in numerous medical/healthcare settings. This course also emphasizes and allows students to hone personal and professional qualities, knowledge, and skills needed by PCTs to provide quality basic care in a healthcare agency or independent assistance to patients in the home setting under the supervision of registered nurses. Topics covered in this course will include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, basic nursing and home healthcare, clients rights, principles of therapeutic communication, safety, infection control, emergency situation, restorative care, death and dying, EKG, phlebotomy, legal/ethical issues related to patient care, and effective leadership and communication. Students must be 11th grade or higher to take this course/PCT test.
