Arlington College and Career High School – Advanced Placement Seminar
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
Advanced Placement Seminar, and elective course, is a foundational course that equips students with the power to accurately and precisely analyze and evaluate information, develop skills to think critically and creatively, research, explore, pose solutions, develop arguments, collaborate and communicate using various media and perspectives. Through a cross curricular lens, students consider multiple points of view to develop deep understanding of complex issues, connect those issues to their own lives and work both collaboratively and independently to explore real world issues. Students design and deliver written, oral and visual presentations, both individually and as part of a team. AP Seminar is the first of two courses in the AP Capstone Program. The AP Capstone program is an innovative program from College Board that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. AP Capstone is built on the foundation of two AP Courses – AP Seminar and AP Research – and is designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study experience in other AP courses. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing will receive the AP Capstone. Alternatively, students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research will receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate signifying their attainment of college-level academic and research skills.
