This semester course provides a comprehensive, chronological survey of the history of African Americans in the United States. Students examine topics beginning with Ancient African History and continuing through Transatlantic Slave Trade, Pre-Civil War, Life during Colonial Settlement, Life during the Civil War/Reconstruction, Life after Emancipation, Harlem Renaissance, Life during the Great Depression and WWII, Modern Civil Rights Movement, Life during the late 20th-21st century, and Issues in Contemporary times. This course is paired with American Indian Studies.
