Introduction to the Theater courses provide an overview of the art, conventions, and history of the theater. In this class students will learn about theatre through a variety of techniques including class discussions, essays, and performance. Students learn about one or more of the following topics: basic techniques in acting, major developments in dramatic literature, major playwrights, the formation of theater as a cultural tradition, and critical appreciation of the art. Drama I provides the basic foundations of Drama, an introduction to acting, the History of Theatre and introduction to technical theatre. Counseling Notes: 2. Credit will be awarded as needed by each individual student in this sequential order: Fine/Practical Arts, or Elective. 3. This class does not qualify as CDHE approved English credit. 4. This course is for students who are interested in learning more about acting and performing.

Prerequisites: This course is a prerequisite for Drama II and Drama III
