Grades: One-year course. Open to grade 12. Meets the ${ \\boldsymbol { 1 2 ^ { \\mathrm { { t h } } } } }$ Grade English requirement and meets the "B" UC/CSU Requirement for English. British Literature is a chronological survey of literature of the British Empire from Beowulf (ca 445 A.D.) to the present. Students will examine the changes the English language has undergone as a result of historic and social shifts. Core and supplemental works vary by semester, and may include Shakespeare’s TheTragedyofMacbeth, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre,Chaucer’s TheCanterburyTales, J.R.R. Tolkien’s TheHob it, and Aldous Huxley’s BraveNewWorld.
