Amador Valley High – Peer Academic Tutor

One-year course. Open to grades 10, 11, 12. Course may be repeated for credit. Students who wish to be academic tutors may enroll in the course to act as tutors for students in the academic support elective class. The tutors are expected to tutor five to seven students on a daily basis during the academic support class period, and assist the teacher in providing academic and organizational skills to the students. The tutors are expected to be able to tutor in subjects in which they have been successful at an honors or advanced placement level, which include, but are not limited to world language, health, language arts, mathematics, science, and social science. Tutors will receive instruction in tutoring students using the inquiry method that encourages higher level thinking by the students
Prerequisites: One-year course. Open to grade 9. Prerequisite: C or better in $8 ^ { \\mathrm { { \\scriptstyle { + h } } } }$ Grade AVID, or application and interview process. Meets the UC/CSU "G" Requirement for Electives.
