Ahrens Educational Resource Center – Work Transition Program

A comprehensive work-based learning experience for students ages 18-21 with moderate to severe disabilities. The program empowers students to build essential skills and achieve greater independence through hands-on career exploration in industries such as food service, retail, materials management, and hospitality. Students participate in community-based job training at partner sites including the Omni Louisville Hotel, Louisville Zoo, Kentucky Science Center, local hospitals, and St. Vincent DePaul's food pantry. The program includes an observational assessment period and provides personalized assistance with adult agency support services as students transition out of JCPS. The ultimate goal is to prepare students for independent and competitive paid employment.
Prerequisites: Students must be pursuing an alternative high school diploma, demonstrate community safety skills, be able to use TARC public transportation, and interact respectfully with others
