I graduated from UIC with a bachelor in Biochemistry. While in college, I tutored high school students. My favorite subjects were French and chemistry, but I tutored all high school curriculum except Spanish. I will describe my teaching philosophy as " to make each training session as engaging as possible while also assisting students in developing self-study habits. The possibilities are endless when equipped with the tools to learn. " I prefer classroom where there is a blend of different teaching styles. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy traveling, eating and sleeping.

I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. and M.S. in Probability and Statistics. Afterwards, I went into education and earned an M.A.T. from National-Louis University in Secondary Education. I have worked for 15 years as an Actuary (a retirement plan mathematician), eight years managing a bookstore and teaching youth in a church, and six years as a public school Math teacher.I tutor Middle School Math, Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Statistics and ACT/SAT Math. My favorites are Algebra because it is logical, useful in everyday situations, and flexible enough to have more than one way to solve many problems, and Statistics because it uses data to help decide on the best course of action. My tutoring style is laid-back and intense at the same time: laid-back because I am quiet; a musician, not an athletic coach. My style is also intense as I am very serious about solving Math problems and being sure that my answer is right.I love Math and I love teaching. I especially like to show students that they already know Math, that they can learn more of it, that Math is fun, and that Math is valuable. So I build on their skills, support their ideas, and encourage their ambitions. I would like to give all students the best opportunity to develop their potential. When I am not teaching, I like to read history and fiction, advocate for renewable energy, play music with my wife, learn other languages and go camping and canoeing.

I am a research chemist at Northwestern University with ten years of experience as a tutor, teacher, or mentor. I have experience tutoring collegiate physics, calculus, and chemistry. I have also taught introductory college chemistry courses (both as a TA and head instructor). I am best suited as a chemistry tutor since I am a chemist by training. However, I also enjoy tutoring physics and math. I try to promote a growth mindset in my tutoring sessions and aim to help students build confidence in math and science. I received a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from UC Berkeley and a B.S. in Chemistry and Physics from Haverford College.

I find teaching and tutoring to be incredibly rewarding. Seeing somebody else understand a concept through my framing of that concept is the highest form of communication for which I strive. I look forward to working with Varsity Tutors and students everywhere.

I am a 2020 graduate of Northwestern University with a BA in Cognitive Science and Linguistics. I have previously tutored at Mathnasium, and during my senior year at NU I was a tutor for student-athletes on campus. I greatly enjoy helping others learn and seeing the accomplishment on their faces when a concept we've been working on finally clicks. Some of my favorite topics to teach are psychology and standardized tests like the ACT--these are areas that I enjoyed studying when I was in high school, so I like to make them fun and interesting for my students as well.In my free time, I make time to read for pleasure, get outside to enjoy the fresh air, and recently started crocheting!
