ACCUPLACER Arithmetic Tutor • +97 Subjects

Hello! My name is Noah and I'm a mechanical engineer. I have a lot of experience tutoring and teaching math, science, english, and German, and I also have experience in test prep!Nervous about online tutoring? I myself have taken over 300 hours of online tutoring, and have become fluent in German and Portuguese thanks to it! I know what it's like, especially on your first session. You might be a bit nervous, unsure, and questioning about what the experience will be like. Don't worry I've been there! I'll do my best to make it a comfortable and happy experience. My biggest goal is for you to end the lesson in a great mood and a better understanding of your subject! Each lesson I will prepare either a powerpoint or google drive document that we can work from. I will do my best to create real world examples for you in each subject so you can understand the purpose of the material. In addition, I will custom tailor my plan to fit you and your learning needs. At the end of each lesson I will send you a copy of the notes we used, and you are free to contact me and ask additional questions at any time for free!Is your child struggling in class?? I have 3 little sisters, and have spent lots of time through the years teaching them different subjects in school. In addition, I have lots of experience teaching students English-I spent almost a month doing it in Vietnam. In college I'm a leader, and often find myself teaching and tutoring peers before exams. I love teaching, children, and learning. I'm super outgoing, and I can make any subject fun!Applying to college and stressed about your SAT/ACT? I have experience with test prep and I know how to help you improve you score! Nervous about your application essays or personal statement? I'm happy to read that over as well and give you my personal advice!Applying to internships or co-ops? In the last 3 years I have personally been to multiple hiring interviews, have received almost a dozen internship offers, and have spent hours working on my resume and interview skills. All this culminated to an internship at NASA! If you want to practice interviewing or have me read over your application, I'd be happy to!Maybe you're a professional and are going back to school? Not only is the material fresh in my mind, but I'm also old enough and experienced enough to relate it real world scenarios. Not a tech expert? I'll make your lesson as easy as possible! Just answer my video call and I will handle everything else!If you have more than one topic you want to work on, I'm happy to help! Maybe you want to spend the first hour studying pre-calc for the ACT and a half hour writing your application essay? I'm happy to do it!Give me a chance and I guarantee, you will see results!

Allison

Analytical Chemistry Tutor • +5 Subjects

Hi, my name is Allison, and I am a fifth year Ph. D. candidate in the chemistry department at the University of Florida. I have worked with high school and college level chemistry students, and I am willing to meet you where you are at in chemistry. If you are willing to work to learn it, I will match that effort to help you learn it. When I work with students I prefer to work in smaller groups, so that I can better address your specific concerns and areas where you want help. After having been a TA for three years and tutoring for five, I have learned that there are many ways to present a concept, and some ways of explaining things make more sense than others to some people. I am flexible with how I present information and will work to do it in a way that maximizes your ability to understand the material. I have also gained a series of tips and tricks that help to keep easily confused information straight. As a tutor I want it to be enjoyable, but I want you to learn also, so I typically have a focused but relaxed tutoring environment.

ACT Prep Tutor • +75 Subjects

Hello! My name is Thomas, and I am an assistant principal at an Orlando elementary charter school. I love teaching; it gives me great satisfaction when I can help students achieve their academic goals. For over 7 years, I travelled from house to house tutoring middle and high school students in math, language arts, science, social studies, history, geography, biology, chemistry, ACT, etc. That was a lot of miles for my 2005 Kia to handle! The car has since retired, but I have not.How can I help you? I can definitely help you with almost any content you need to master, but more importantly, I can TEACH YOU TO IDENTIFY THE STRATEGIES YOU NEED TO DO WELL IN A CLASS OR SIMPLY GET THE EXAM, ESSAY OR ACT/SAT SCORE YOU WANT. Memorization will only get you so far. I help you strategically think about questions so that you answer them correctly even if you don't remember exactly what the facts are. Whatever the middle, high school or (in some cases) college subject you are finding difficult, this approach is going to help you. My goal is to make you not need a tutor as soon as possible.Just a little about me: I lived in Madrid, Spain for ten years, where I was the director of a language academy and oversaw English, French, German and Spanish classes. When I moved back to the USA, I became certified in Special Education. Since then, I have been taught or co-taught the subjects mentioned above or in my profile. As a tutor, I saw the need to adapt classes to the strengths of my students. This is what I will continue to do with my online students - you, I hope!

Arabic Tutor • +36 Subjects

I am currently in my final semester at the University of Kansas. I am preparing to graduate with my Bachelor of Arts in Classical Languages with a focus on Greek, Latin, and Arabic. During my time at the University of Kansas, I tutored professionally for over three years for individual classes as well as standardized test preparation. I am able to tutor a wide variety of subjects; however, my passion lies in languages and history. In my experience tutoring non-English speakers, I have learned how to solidify short-term knowledge to the long term and apply this not only to languages, but many other subjects, as well. I am a strong believer in the value and necessity of education, which is why I intend to make it my life long career. As such, I try to encourage a fun but results oriented learning environment for all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, my salt water aquariums, and spending time with my husky.

AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +6 Subjects

I graduated from the Johns Hopkins University with a PhD in French language and literature and I have ten years of teaching experience. A French native, I completed my undergraduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. During my senior year I was also a French teaching assistant "abroad" for an American university in New York State. My role was to tutor students taking intermediate French during one-on-one sessions in my office. I helped them learn new vocabulary and acquire grammar tools; we read and discussed short texts from movie reviews to novella chapters; we compared paintings or photographs available on the internet but always in French. After that year, I taught French classes at Johns Hopkins from French 1 to French 4 as a graduate student. Upon graduation I was hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor by a small Southern California liberal arts college where I taught language and literature classes in French. I had office hours during which I answered questions and made sure students had assimilated the new material, from grammar rules to literary concepts. As a tutor and a teacher, I use French as much as possible even with beginners. I like to use auditory and visual inputs at the same time and I contextualize new words to ease the process of memorization. Most of all, I will adapt my methods to your needs and level of French. If you are more advanced I will help you converse and write about more complex material. I am a good listener and I will appreciate your feedback after each session if you wish to provide any.I have traveled to more than fifteen countries and lived in France, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. I have always enjoyed speaking foreign languages and I learned a lot from my own teachers and tutors in German and English. Their knowledge, confidence, open-mindedness and patience always inspired me; I strive to be to you the kind of tutors they were to me.

Biology Tutor • +41 Subjects

My name is Natalie, and I'm a second-year student at Rice University majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as in English. My unusual double major is a result of my inability to choose a favorite subject--I love literature and science! This love of learning translates naturally to my role as a tutor. Because I love learning, I look for ways to transmit my passions to others by teaching them. Another reason I enjoy tutoring lies in my own experience as a student. I had to work very hard for the grades it took to get to college, so I understand the problems of the struggling student, and I try my best to relate the methods I personally used to overcome those obstacles.I've tutored high school-level Chemistry and Algebra as well as SAT prep, but I also have an extensive background in Spanish and French and am very familiar with Biology, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus, among other subjects. In my free time, I enjoy reading, yoga, and catching up with my two lovely little sisters.

Algebra Tutor • +18 Subjects

I am currently a senior studying at Swarthmore College with a double major in chemistry and mathematics. I have tutored college and high school students in many topics including organic chemistry, calculus, trigonometry, algebra and general chemistry. I have also tutored students in the SAT verbal and math sections, as well as the math subject tests. My favorite subjects to tutor are SAT math, general chemistry and calculus.I believe that the best way to guide students through new concepts is to introduce them to each step slowly, and allow them to digest these steps in their own way through practice and problem-solving.

Advanced High School Biology Tutor • +28 Subjects

After graduating in 2011 from the City College of New York, I worked as a consultant for Dr. Dewey who then recruited me from Brookhaven National Lab to the Feinstein institutes for Medical Research. That year, I entered the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and joined the inaugural class as one of three PhD students of the new medical school. My dissertation project interrogated pre-clinical sex differences in the metabolic neural patterns associated with opioid pain management using18-fludeoxyglucose (18FDG) and micro positron emission tomography (MicroPET). I was able to show that distinct metabolic patterns of pain were sex-specific, and confirmed that an animal model could be useful in revealing distinct metabolic indicators of opioid withdrawal and improve the efficacy of therapeutic intervention. As a Research Scientist at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, I oversee operations of the MicroPET imaging facility as part of the Center for Neurosciences. I have recentl studies include studies of the extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein, (CIRP-/-) and wild type (WT) mice, before and after exposure to binge-alcohol levels. By quantifying glucose metabolism with 18FDG and MicroPET, and using brain-mapping analysis of the imaging data, we can determine if CIRP plays a role in alcohol-induced cognitive impairment. I have served as mentor to many undergraduate and some high school students, and very much enjoy sharing my knowledge base with those that enjoy science.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +33 Subjects

I graduated from Purdue University in May of 2013 with degrees in both Actuarial Science and Statistics and a minor in Management. After spending a year working as a consulting actuary, I decided to make a career change and returned to school to pursue a future as an optometrist. My motivation for this drastic career change was due to my passion for helping others and my desire to work more closely with people of all ages. I have an extensive background in mathematics and first-hand experience applying math to real world problems while working as an actuary. One of my main strengths that has been utilized in my work experience is my ability to explain complex mathematical concepts to others and to test for their understanding. I have previous experience as a private tutor and feel that my educational and professional background provide a great platform to continue tutoring in various mathematical and statistical subjects.

MBA builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in MBA opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.

Many students find that success in MBA boosts their confidence in related subjects too.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in MBA because topics build on each other.

A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.

Look for someone with strong MBA knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.

Varsity Tutors vets all tutors through background checks, credential review, and teaching evaluation—so you can focus on finding the right personality and teaching approach fit.

For students who are struggling, stuck, or want to excel, tutoring often pays off in better grades, stronger test scores, and reduced stress. The 1-on-1 format lets you move at your own pace and focus on what you actually need.

Many students also develop better study habits that serve them in other subjects.

Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week. If you're significantly behind or have a major exam coming up, more frequent sessions can help you catch up faster.

Your tutor can recommend a schedule based on your goals and timeline.

Yes—both are core parts of tutoring. Tutors help you work through challenging homework problems while teaching the underlying concepts, so you're not just getting answers but actually learning.
