I am very dedicated to helping students excel in school and in helping them develop study methods and styles that work best for them and that will serve them throughout school. I previously tutored with Boys Hope Girls Hope in Evanston, IL. I tutored middle and high school students in Spanish and English, and I was able to help them develop study strategies such as using flashcards or translating a sentence they had spoken aloud that day in their heads for extra language practice. I am very excited to be able to tutor again and to work with students. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a previously struggling student excel and to have helped them improve along the way.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +54 Subjects

I am currently a PhD candidate at Northwestern University, studying microbiology and public health (my two biggest passions). I received my Bachelor of Science with high honors from Emory University in 2011, where I double-majored in Biology and Spanish. During my time at Emory, I studied abroad in Australia working on barrier reef and rainforest ecology, and studied in Spain mastering my Spanish language skills. I can read and write Spanish with high proficiency and have tutored Spanish speakers, and received highest scores on the AP Spanish exam with listening. My favorite academic subjects are math and science, and I have received perfect scores on a variety of standardized math exams, including SAT I math, SAT II math IIC subject test, BC calculus AP exam, and the GRE quantitative exam. In addition to tutoring mathematics at all levels, I enjoy tutoring grammar and mechanics, and editing essays. I received the Carlos C. Rojas Excellence in Writing Award from Emory University, and have served on the editorial board for Emory University's undergraduate research journal, as well as have authored peer-reviewed manuscripts at Northwestern University. I have lectured to undergraduate students at Northwestern University in cell biology, and have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in both a classroom setting and one-on-one. I have a very diverse background of knowledge and have worked in a variety of settings, both academic and in industry, and can meet any of your tutoring needs. I am a very patient person with excellent communication and listening skills who will take the time to get to know each of my tutees. After identifying and recognizing a tutee's own strengths and weaknesses, I can tailor a unique tutoring plan to help each student exceed his or her goals.

I also received a Masters in Special Education. Since graduation, I have taught at my current school for 5 years (but I have been teaching for almost 8.) I am currently my school's 5/6th grade Special Education Teacher. I also have experience in tutoring a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Reading/LA, Elementary (K-6) math, Elementary Science and Social Studies. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun. I also believe that learning can be fun!

College Math Tutor • +12 Subjects

I am a graduate of Northwestern State University with dual degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics. I have been tutoring now for well over 5 years at all age levels including the college level for all four years of undergrad at my University! I am especially passionate about high school/upper level math subjects such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc... because they allow students to dive deeper into a single subject opposed to lower level math classes where you get a little taste of everything without really going below the surface level of the content. With that being said, all of my teaching experience has been on the middle school level, so we get down to the good stuff anyway! Algebra 1 has a special place in my heart since I just got done teaching my very first 8th grade class in that subject where they ROCKED the end of year test (very proud teacher moment :). I am currently a high school teacher in St. Louis Missouri Public Schools where I plan to bring my vibrant southern Louisiana energy to my students while growing them not only as students, but into the version of themselves that they would like to be by instilling in them a hard work ethic and "don't give up" attitude. I understand math isn't everyones subject, but I intend to make it a little more bearable for my students by engaging with them through questioning what they already know to get them to what they need to know. You'll be surprised at the conclusions you can come to on your own when just given a chance!

I am a fully certified as a bilingual elementary school teacher, with degrees and certifications from the University of Arizona. After graduating in 2015 I decided to put teaching on hold and pursue my passion of travel. I have been working as a flight attendant for United Airlines since June of 2015 and am planning to do this for the foreseeable future. That being said, I really miss teaching and am looking for way to immerse myself back into the education field part-time.

Hello! My name is Alexis. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona where I attended both University of Arizona and Arizona State University to study Theatre Arts and Communication. During my time there, I led a few different projects, including a theatre festival, so I am well-versed in leadership, presentation, and public speaking. In May 2017, I will be obtaining my MFA in Acting from Brown University. On top of acting and performance, I love to write, read (when I have the time), and create.I am an actor/director/theatremaker first and foremost. I believe in the power of the voice and that everyone has a right to be heard. I love watching people emerge from behind the walls we all put up to protect ourselves. I try to encourage everyone I work with to be in charge of their voice and how they use it and to not be afraid to be seen. We all contain so much wonderful potential and I enjoy watching people tap into that!
