I am a student at Brown University, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in psychology. I employ a student-centered approach to tutoring, grounding the session in the student's knowledge of what topics it would be most beneficial to review. I typically begin a session by asking a student if there is any material they have learned since the previous session whose reasoning they would like for me to walk them through. I then help the student work through problems or questions that employ that understanding. My favorite subject to tutor is math; I love helping students understand the logic of a subject in which they may have been relying for years on memorization. I have been tutoring since 2016, and I have experience teaching math, science, language arts, history, French, and study skills to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I currently focus on math (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry), English, test prep, and essay writing.

I am a Brown University senior graduating this May with a bachelors of science in neuroscience. For the past year and a half I have spent numerous hours as a volunteer for Let's Get Ready, a SAT and college prep program. I began my involvement in this organization purely on a whim, in order to give back to the community around me. I quickly discovered my passion for teaching, however, and began serving as the head math coach within a few short months. Teaching has allowed me to take part in the development of future intellects. To this purpose, I teach only mathematics and science, as those are my personal favorite subjects. I also focus on improving one's ability to think through a problem, as opposed to learning simply by base memorization. I do this because when a student's focus is solely on memorization, they often quickly forget the material due to time or stress. However, the skills one gains from learning how to think through problems are much more stable and flexible. This flexibility allows for those skills to be used in multiple subjects, and towards more advanced learning.

I'm comfortable with a wide range of subjects but I'm most passionate about History, English and Literature. These are topics I love discussing in general and I'm always happy to have a chance to help someone else find enjoyment in the subject. Trying to encourage of love of learning is an important part of my teaching philosophy and I try to do so by finding out what my students are interested in.

I am a lover of learning and helping others learn. As a student, I have had great success at rigorous and selective schools, earning my Bachelor's with High Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College and my Master's with perfect grades from Brown University. Since leaving formal education, I continue to pursue learning opportunities through independent reading and professional development. I often tell my students that learning is my addiction, as many make fun of my choices for "fun" reading. As a teacher, I am certified to teach Social Studies grades 7-12 and currently teach high school social studies. I have additional experience teaching elementary school students, middle school school students, and adult learners. With my training from Brown as well as ongoing training from the Rhode Island Department of Education and other reputable providers, I continue to hone my abilities to facilitate the learning process for students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. I believe in personalized teaching that allows students to build confidence and excitement about a given subject while also seeing its immediate relevance to their lives. Hobbies: art, books, traveling, travel, reading, music, writing

I am a student at Brown University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In high school, I took a multitude of AP and college courses, so I am qualified to work with students on challenging material. I took high-level mathematics courses at a local university while in high school and participated in gifted programs as well as internship and research opportunities. My most recent tutoring endeavors include: tutoring math and reading for a variety of grades from K-12 and working for a private tutoring company as an SAT instructor, leading test-prep classes for high school students. I continue to pursue my educational and personal goals while at Brown. Although I am most experienced in the maths and sciences, I also love teaching English subjects as well as social sciences. I also value community involvement and have a love for the arts. I have danced for more than 15 years, on company teams and for benefit events in several communities. I also really enjoying figure skating, swimming, and participating in robotics programs and other enrichment activities. I have a passion for learning about and tutoring the maths and sciences because I have always been curious about the world around us, and science is a process of searching for fundamental and universal principles that govern causes and effects in the universe. I enjoy tutoring students for the opportunity to aid them in their quest for knowledge and to help them to question the world around them. I am a strong proponent of education and am excited to guide other students, helping them achieve their educational goals!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Pawtucket's 22 schools and 3 school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in the Pawtucket School District, Central Falls, or other local districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands their curriculum and local academic standards.

Pawtucket students frequently seek help with math, reading comprehension, writing, and test preparation for standardized assessments aligned with Rhode Island standards. We also support students working toward proficiency in science and social studies, as well as SAT and ACT prep for high schoolers preparing for college.

With Pawtucket's average student-teacher ratio of 13.1:1, personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills an important gap by giving your student dedicated attention tailored to their specific learning pace and style. A tutor can focus entirely on your student's individual challenges and strengths, which is difficult for teachers managing full classrooms.

The first session is an opportunity for the tutor and student to get to know each other and establish learning goals. The tutor will assess your student's current level, discuss any specific challenges they're facing in their Pawtucket school, and create a personalized plan to help them succeed in their coursework and meet local academic standards.

Tutors working with Pawtucket students are familiar with Rhode Island's learning standards and curriculum expectations across grade levels. They can target specific areas where your student needs support to master grade-level content and prepare for state assessments, ensuring alignment with what's being taught in their classroom.

Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's specific needs. We work with families across Pawtucket to find tutoring solutions that fit different budgets. Contact us for a personalized quote and to learn about package options that work for your family.

Varsity Tutors connects students with experienced tutors who have strong subject expertise and a track record of helping students improve academically. Tutors are screened for their ability to work effectively with students at different levels and are matched based on your student's specific needs and learning style.

We work to connect students with qualified tutors quickly so they can start making progress on their academic goals. Once you reach out, we'll discuss your student's needs and find the right tutor match, allowing you to begin personalized instruction within a short timeframe.
