I am an undergraduate at Brown University concentrating in Education and American Studies. I have experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students as a tutor in individual learning environments. I have also worked as a museum educator and a camp counselor. My goal is to help students by engaging them in their learning, setting challenges, and empowering them succeed. I am currently a neuroscience PhD student at Columbia University. I majored in English and Psychology from Brown University, with a 4.0 and honours in Psychology. Following this, I worked at a lab at UPenn for three years, slowly transitioning to software engineering and computational neuroscience.

I am a student at Brown University, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in psychology. I employ a student-centered approach to tutoring, grounding the session in the student's knowledge of what topics it would be most beneficial to review. I typically begin a session by asking a student if there is any material they have learned since the previous session whose reasoning they would like for me to walk them through. I then help the student work through problems or questions that employ that understanding. My favorite subject to tutor is math; I love helping students understand the logic of a subject in which they may have been relying for years on memorization. I have been tutoring since 2016, and I have experience teaching math, science, language arts, history, French, and study skills to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I currently focus on math (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry), English, test prep, and essay writing.

I am a Brown University senior graduating this May with a bachelors of science in neuroscience. For the past year and a half I have spent numerous hours as a volunteer for Let's Get Ready, a SAT and college prep program. I began my involvement in this organization purely on a whim, in order to give back to the community around me. I quickly discovered my passion for teaching, however, and began serving as the head math coach within a few short months. Teaching has allowed me to take part in the development of future intellects. To this purpose, I teach only mathematics and science, as those are my personal favorite subjects. I also focus on improving one's ability to think through a problem, as opposed to learning simply by base memorization. I do this because when a student's focus is solely on memorization, they often quickly forget the material due to time or stress. However, the skills one gains from learning how to think through problems are much more stable and flexible. This flexibility allows for those skills to be used in multiple subjects, and towards more advanced learning.

I'm comfortable with a wide range of subjects but I'm most passionate about History, English and Literature. These are topics I love discussing in general and I'm always happy to have a chance to help someone else find enjoyment in the subject. Trying to encourage of love of learning is an important part of my teaching philosophy and I try to do so by finding out what my students are interested in.

I am a lover of learning and helping others learn. As a student, I have had great success at rigorous and selective schools, earning my Bachelor's with High Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College and my Master's with perfect grades from Brown University. Since leaving formal education, I continue to pursue learning opportunities through independent reading and professional development. I often tell my students that learning is my addiction, as many make fun of my choices for "fun" reading. As a teacher, I am certified to teach Social Studies grades 7-12 and currently teach high school social studies. I have additional experience teaching elementary school students, middle school school students, and adult learners. With my training from Brown as well as ongoing training from the Rhode Island Department of Education and other reputable providers, I continue to hone my abilities to facilitate the learning process for students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. I am a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Since graduation, I joined the Rhode Island Teaching Fellows where I had the opportunity to work towards a teaching certificate and begin my journey in the classroom. I spent the past year teaching 10th and 11th grade students life science and chemistry.

In high school, I took a multitude of AP and college courses, so I am qualified to work with students on challenging material. I took high-level mathematics courses at a local university while in high school and participated in gifted programs as well as internship and research opportunities. My most recent tutoring endeavors include: tutoring math and reading for a variety of grades from K-12 and working for a private tutoring company as an SAT instructor, leading test-prep classes for high school students. I continue to pursue my educational and personal goals while at Brown. Although I am most experienced in the maths and sciences, I also love teaching English subjects as well as social sciences. I also value community involvement and have a love for the arts. I have danced for more than 15 years, on company teams and for benefit events in several communities. I also really enjoying figure skating, swimming, and participating in robotics programs and other enrichment activities. I have a passion for learning about and tutoring the maths and sciences because I have always been curious about the world around us, and science is a process of searching for fundamental and universal principles that govern causes and effects in the universe. I enjoy tutoring students for the opportunity to aid them in their quest for knowledge and to help them to question the world around them.
