Hello! I moved to Colorado from Connecticut approximately 3 years ago. I have a Bachelors degree in both Psychology and Elementary Education, as well as a Masters degree in Reading. I have obtained the "Highly Qualified" educator status, based on my exemplary PRAXIS scores. In addition, I have been an elementary school teacher for the past 15 years, having taught 2nd grade for 13 years and 3rd grade for 2 years. I elected to not continue my classroom position in order to support my father during a challenging year of medical procedures. I have worked with children of all ages and backgrounds since I was a child myself. I bond with children quickly and easily and have learned numerous behavioral and academic strategies to cater to specific individual needs. I look forward to the opportunity to work with students once again.

I majored in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry as a pre-med undergraduate at Berea College. My favorite classes in high school and throughout college were chemistry and biology which led her to pursue biochemical research and a career in medicine. Tutoring students in various subjects since the ninth grade, I have nearly eight years of experience. During my post-secondary education, I volunteered with the One-to-One tutoring program where I tutored local elementary students in math, reading, and social studies. I also volunteered as a science instructor for Vanderbilt University’s Aspirnaut STEM Program for elementary and middle school students, while working as a Chemistry Teaching Assistant/tutor for undergraduate courses. In the fall of 2017, I will be attending the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine to complete my post-graduate studies. Daughter of a high school algebra and English teacher, I really enjoy tutoring and helping students understand subjects especially in the areas of math, reading, and science. I find it rewarding to share my knowledge and passion for science with students just being introduced to the subject. My goal in tutoring is to not only get the students on course with their grade level work but to also challenge them to surpass this level of understanding by finding creative approaches to teaching complex topics.

I believe all students can learn. We just need to find the right ways to teach them. Not every student learns in the same way, so it is up to teachers and tutors to help students discover how they learn best. It is often hard to find this out in a classroom of 25 or more students, but with a tutor, students can often find out how they can become lifelong learners and enrich their lives in the process.

I also learned of Magis (seeking more and better) and being men and women in service of others. I love giving back to those around me by teaching. Helping others discover the joy of learning brings me joy. I love tutoring foreign languages such as German but also the younger grades in basic skills such as reading, writing and math.
