I have a Bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Chicago. During my time there I tutored students in both class and individual settings. Following my graduation I spent over two years teaching as a member of the Peace Corps in Tanzania. I taught hundreds of secondary school students both math and physics. Now, having returned to the US, I am anticipating starting a master's program in the fall. When I'm not working I enjoy playing and watching basketball, reading and exercise. I love learning and I am eager to share my skills and knowledge with others.

My friends and I have realized something through the hours spent laboring over long homework sets and the intensive weeks crammed with studying for 16-chapter cumulative final exams: working with other people helps. An extra mind proves its usefulness when you turn to your friend and ask, "so what exactly is the 'enthalpy' of a system and what does it mean?" As your friend picks up a dry erase marker, walks over to the board and spends the next 10 minutes kneading the idea into your head you come to understand how a bit of help from another, a 'tutor,' can make a world of difference. These are the tutoring and teaching experiences I have had.I am enrolled in my final class needed to complete a BS in physics from the University Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh. I graduate this coming April and I hope to be able to pass along all that I have learned. I look forward to helping your child on the path to success.

I'm a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with a degree in Mathematics, and a minor in Physics, and have a few years of experience tutoring in both of those fields. I always enjoy helping students in math, and helping them discover that just because they don't consider themselves a "math person" doesn't mean they can't do well. My goal is never just to make students able to pass an exam, but to make them feel comfortable with the material. I like to spend my spare time at a local fencing club, either teaching or practicing.

I am a graduate of Pomona College. In 2012, I received my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Politics. Since graduation, I have worked in both public and private schools as an instructional assistant. My job responsibilities included tutoring students in the following subjects: Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, English/Language Arts, Writing, Social Studies, U.S. Government, Biology, and Social Studies. Of the many subjects I have helped my students with, subjects involving math or politics have been my favorite, because both challenge me to think creatively and critically. My tutoring philosophy is to help create independent and critical thinkers. My style reflects this style: The ultimate goal in every tutoring session is NOT to get the right answers, but to understand the concepts being taught and to be able to apply that understanding to a variety of situations. Outside of working with students, I enjoy reading and running.

I received both of my degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. I have a B.A. in English Writing and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. The focus of my master's degree was on Fiction and Poetry; however, while at Pitt, I received a graduate fellowship that involved teaching a freshman course in English Composition and tutoring at Pitt's Writing Center. The Writing Center is open to any student at the University and students in any discipline can come for tutoring. For example, I might first see a freshman requesting assistance on a short essay for a History course, and my next client might be a graduate student working on a thesis in Philosophy or Economics. I believe that good writing skills are the foundation for success in any discipline. My teaching style could best be described as one where students/teachers contribute equally to discussion and the choice of what to write. Always, always ask questions. Questions will open up new avenues of where you want your writing to go.After graduation, I worked as an adjunct faculty member at Pitt, Jefferson Community College in Steubenville, Ohio, and Duquesne University. The subjects I most commonly taught were English Composition courses and Writing for Business. I also taught Creative Writing for the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project (a summer program for middle and high school students) and did community outreach for women in a local halfway house where we worked on journals and poetry.I have experience in legal writing from many years of employment as a paralegal with a prominent Pittsburgh attorney and have also worked as an administrator at the University of Pittsburgh in the Center for International Studies.I have a lifelong love of literature and typically read at least one novel a week. I will read anything, but my preference is Twentieth Century American writers.
