I have a Bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Chicago. During my time there I tutored students in both class and individual settings. Following my graduation I spent over two years teaching as a member of the Peace Corps in Tanzania. I taught hundreds of secondary school students both math and physics. Now, having returned to the US, I am anticipating starting a master's program in the fall. When I'm not working I enjoy playing and watching basketball, reading and exercise. My friends and I have realized something through the hours spent laboring over long homework sets and the intensive weeks crammed with studying for 16-chapter cumulative final exams: working with other people helps. An extra mind proves its usefulness when you turn to your friend and ask, "so what exactly is the 'enthalpy' of a system and what does it mean?" As your friend picks up a dry erase marker, walks over to the board and spends the next 10 minutes kneading the idea into your head you come to understand how a bit of help from another, a 'tutor,' can make a world of difference. These are the tutoring and teaching experiences I have had.I am enrolled in my final class needed to complete a BS in physics from the University Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh. I believe that good writing skills are the foundation for success in any discipline. My teaching style could best be described as one where students/teachers contribute equally to discussion and the choice of what to write. Always, always ask questions. Questions will open up new avenues of where you want your writing to go.After graduation, I worked as an adjunct faculty member at Pitt, Jefferson Community College in Steubenville, Ohio, and Duquesne University.
