Measurement and Conversions

Measuring the World Around Us

Measurement lets us find out how long, heavy, hot, or full something is. We use different units, like inches, centimeters, liters, and pounds, depending on what we're measuring.

Types of Measurement

  • Length: Inches, feet, centimeters, meters
  • Weight/Mass: Pounds, ounces, grams, kilograms
  • Volume: Cups, pints, liters, milliliters
  • Time: Seconds, minutes, hours

Converting Units

Sometimes you need to change one unit to another, like feet to inches or centimeters to meters. Remember that there are 12 inches in a foot, and 100 centimeters in a meter!

Real-World Use

Measurement is used in cooking, building, sports, and even in planning your day!

Examples

  • Change 3 feet into inches by multiplying by 12.

  • Convert 500 milliliters to liters by dividing by 1,000.
