Understanding Data and Graphs
Making Sense of Data
Data is information, like how many pets your friends have or what color cars are in a parking lot. We use graphs and charts to show data so it's easy to understand.
Types of Graphs
- Bar Graphs: Show numbers with bars of different heights.
- Line Graphs: Connect dots to show changes over time.
- Pie Charts: Show parts of a whole with slices.
Reading Graphs
Look for the title, labels, and key to understand what the graph is showing. Check the numbers to see which groups are biggest or smallest.
Why It Matters
Interpreting data helps you solve real problems, like figuring out what time your favorite TV show is most popular or finding out which snack is most loved in your class.
Examples
Read a bar graph to find out which fruit is most popular in your school.
Use a line graph to track your reading minutes each week.
In a Nutshell
Turn numbers into pictures to see trends and patterns!
