How can a tutor assist you in conquering History?

History is an extremely broad and varied topic. It covers the recent decades, all the way back to when mammoths roamed the earth. Not only do historians have the challenge of piecing together what happened in times past, but they also have the opportunity to create speculations of what caused certain human behavior during different parts of time. History has a wide breadth of knowledge to be learned, including everything from the Romans and Mesopotamians to the United States Revolution and World War II. History is important because it allows us to learn from the past and not make the same mistakes that our ancestors did. We may also explore ethical dilemmas through a historical lens and see how ethics have changed through time and why. Because the topic is so large, students often struggle with remembering detailed information. Varsity Tutors' experienced educational directors are happy to help students in San Diego connect with a qualified history tutor who might help them pursue their goals.

All of the tutors whom our educational directors may connect you with in San Diego are skilled in teaching history. However, we may pick the best one for you. When you contact Varsity Tutors, we take into account your experience with the topic, the area of history you are interested in learning more of, your preferred learning style, and your personality when selecting the perfect tutor for your needs. The tutor may then meet with you and may likely do a brief diagnostic assessment to get a basic idea of your knowledge on the topic. Then, they may create an individualized learning plan to keep you on your toes and get you to your goals.

History Tutoring review by Peter in San Diego, CA
To practice for the exam, the student and I reviewed the majority of a practice exam. Since we did not have enough time to complete the essays, he outlined them so that I could see how he approaches this section. He told me he will complete one by our next session. He is doing very well overall, and I suspect he will do equally well on the exam. I did not leave him with any practice other than having him complete an essay, and I did not see any grades.

History Tutoring review by Katie in San Diego, CA
The student's history exam is tomorrow, so we spent most of our session in preparation. She has done a good job studying the guide that we have been making, and we continued in the same way for the final unit of the semester. We also discussed the essay topics that were presented and the most effective ways to answer them. I was happy to see that some of the "whys" of history were making sense to her in some way--which definitely makes it easier to learn and remember.

I helped the student work on her history essay. We talked about the topic and searched for some academic sources for her paper. Then we outlined her essay and I helped her develop a new thesis statement to organize her thoughts. I also looked up MLA style and guider her on how to do the works cited section. She was planning to complete the essay tonight and then we will review it for grammar and language tomorrow.

History Tutoring review by Lauren in San Diego, CA
The student and I continued work on his Greek mythology project on Ajax. We typed up and edited the rough draft of the story of the myth of Ajax and he practiced reciting the story. We tried to come up with some tricks for remembering the order of the story, and his performance improved significantly. By the end of the session, he had a fairly solid handle on the story and was generally able to recite the most important aspects of the story from memory.

History Tutoring review by Sachit in San Diego, CA
First, the student and I reviewed the material on the Civil War and Reconstruction. Following this, he and I went through material on the Gilded Age, broken up into political history and industrialization. We ended before the end of the Gilded Age, and will cover that next session. For homework, I assigned him the movie "Lincoln", in order to see an accurate representation of how hated the war was. In addition, he is to go over his notes and look up Rockefeller and Carnegie, two famous businessmen in the Gilded Age. He will also begin to review the 1990's and 1980's on his own to save time.
